Let’s celebrate!
June 21st is the summer solstice. If that’s not reason enough to celebrate it also marks ‘Make Music Day’ and several premium Morris Dancing events.
And I love a celebration.
That might surprise you as some people think that now I no longer drink, take drugs or eat junk food, I’ve turned into some sort of anti-celebration miser.
The exact opposite is the truth. Now I’m not half-cut all the time. I know what celebration really is.
Celebration is the key to behaviour change.
People are pretty simple. They do stuff that brings them pleasure, which means, if you want to change what you do, make sure your new behaviour brings you pleasure. After all, if you don’t enjoy it, you won’t do it for long.
You know this, it’s probably why you stopped jogging, it made you miserable.
The only way you will continue to do something is if you enjoy it. Which is why my aerobic exercise involves dancing and falling off my inline skates. I enjoy them. So, I do them.
Yes, for me getting a beautiful graze on my elbow is the cause for celebration.
What makes you happy? What’s your idea of a celebration?
Build that into your behaviour and you will change. Better yet, you’ll enjoy it.
